A New Orleans biotech company that has pioneered a new chocolate toothpaste is continuing its sweet run in 2012, winning the prestigious Red Dot award for innovative product design.

Theodent’s rich chocolate brown and copper-colored box and tube beat out 6,823 product entries from 43 countries in the internationally acclaimed competition. This is the first time a toothpaste has been awarded the Red Dot for product design and innovative concept.

The winning packaging was crafted to reflect Theodent’s proprietary ingredient, a cocoa extract called Rennou™. Theodent contains no fluoride and Rennou™ is reportedly better at strengthening enamel than fluoride

Theodent will continue their decadent run of success this fall when its executives travel to Berlin October 24 to personally accept the Red Dot award from its founder, Dr. Peter Zec. Following the awards gala, Theodent will enjoy a two-page spread in Red Dot’s “International Yearbook of Communications Design 2012-2013" and be prominently displayed in the Red Dot museum of international design in Shanghai.

“We are truly humbled and honored that the international jury took note of Theodent's unique tube design and packaging. We spent two years in the product and prototype development phase and that clearly paid off," stated Theodent President and CEO Arman Sadeghpour, PhD.

Dr. Sadeghpour and Chairman of the Board Tetsuo Nakamoto initially collaborated on the restorative effects of the cocoa-extract on teeth before deciding to pursue commercial development of their discovery.

Theodent joins the ranks of Apple, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW in winning the Red Dot award.  The revolutionary toothpaste can be found in Whole Food Markets nationwide and on the Theodent website at
