Dean George This Saturday marks the 86th anniversary of Hollywood’s first Academy Awards ceremony held at the famous Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. First hosted May 16, 1929, the awards were created as a means to honor the film industry’s talented artists that make their living pretending to be people that they aren't.
Today the awards are telecast internationally in over 200 countries. Millions of people that live vicariously through these human chameleons watch them pose and preen on the famous red carpet before entering the Dolby Theatre for the world’s biggest selfie.
Well, that got us to thinking and as regular readers of this blog know, you never know where that may lead. Anyway, as a tribute to the dental world, Dental Insurance Store and Agent Straight-Talk wanted to honor those dental-themed movies that we believe have had a significant impact on the oral healthcare industry.
This year’s prestigious awards banquet was held in the Dental Insurance Store's IT department because we heard that someone brought donuts and they are most generous with their coffee.
The categories for this year’s winners include:
- Best Dental Drama
- Best Dental Comedy
- Best Dental Computer Animation
- Best Dental Portrayal in a Western
So, without further ado, here are this year’s winners of Dental Insurance Store’s prestigious Dentin Awards:
Best Dental Drama: The Spirit of a Denture
A dental movie epic! Starring Kevin Spacey, this instant classic has frigates, unrequited love and pirates with gleaming chompers!
High Jinks with W.C. Fields. Who needs laughing gas with this guy yanking your chain?
"Have you ever had this tooth pulled before?"
Best Dental Computer Animation: Finding Nemo
Judging from their conversation its a good bet these fish swim in dental schools. But what else is there to do if you're stuck in an aquarium all day but recite a play-by-play of a root canal!
Best Dental Portrayal in a Western: The Shakiest Gun in the West
Maxillary Destiny! Jesse W. Haywood (Don Knotts) has to pass a final exam from his Philadelphia dental school in 1870 before he can go west to fight oral ignorance.
